What is Chiropody?
Chiropodist are primary health care providers specializing in the treatment and prevention of foot conditions. Chiropodists provide foot care to meet the needs of people of all ages and activity level. Chiropodists are regulated health professionals in Ontario.
A referral is not required to visit a chiropodist. Chiropody services are not covered under OHIP but are commonly covered by third party insurance. Please check with your plan administrator for more details.

A: No, chiropody services are not covered under OHIP. Service fees are usually covered under most extended health insurance plans through the workplace.

A: Most likely yes! Most extended health insurance plans have coverage for chiropody services, custom orthotics, orthopedic shoes, medical compression stockings, and various foot/ankle braces. Contact your insurance plan provider to find out your coverage details. We are in good standings with all insurance companies!
Q: What is the difference between chiropodist and podiatrist?
A: Chiropodists are foot specialists trained in Canada or the UK, while Podiatrists are trained in the U.S. In Ontario, both Chiropodists and Podiatrists are regulated by the College of Chiropodists of Ontario. Both chiropodists and podiatrists can prescribe medications, perform assessment, perform soft tissue surgeries, and prescribe and dispense custom orthotics and orthopedic shoes.
Q: Do I need a prescription from my Doctor for custom orthotics?
A: No, the Chiropodist is able to conduct the full assessment and write the appropriate prescription for your condition. Most insurance plans will accept the Chiropodist’s prescription.
