Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses high-energy acoustic pulses delivered through the skin to injured or painful soft tissue. Rather than masking pain, it works with your body’s natural biology — jumpstarting the healing cascade at a cellular level.

At Woodbine Foot Clinic, we use the Swiss DolorClast® Radial Shockwave system. It is Health Canada cleared and recognized in peer-reviewed literature for the treatment of common foot and lower limb conditions.

Not all shockwave devices are equal. The Swiss DolorClast® by EMS is the gold-standard platform backed by over two decades of clinical research. Choosing a proven device means you receive the same treatment studied in peer-reviewed trials — not a budget imitation.

What should I expect?

  1. Comprehensive Assessment
Your chiropodist will evaluate your foot, review your history, and confirm that shockwave therapy is appropriate for your condition. Imaging or prior records may be reviewed.
  2. Targeted Treatment
Coupling gel is applied to the skin. The DolorClast® handpiece is placed over the treatment area and delivers shockwaves for approximately 5–10 minutes. Most patients describe a tapping or pulsing sensation — intensity is adjusted to your comfort.
  3. Immediate Return to Activity
There is no recovery period. You may resume normal activities right away, though we advise avoiding high-impact exercise for 24–48 hours after each session.
  4. A Course of Sessions
Most conditions require 3–5 sessions spaced one week apart. Some patients notice improvement after the first or second treatment; full results typically develop over 6–12 weeks as tissue heals and remodels.
